Swiss Justice Department says 1 of 7 men arrested in FIFA corruption case appeals for bail

BERN, Switzerland – Switzerland’s Justice Department says one of the seven soccer officials arrested in Zurich appealed for bail during the extradition process.

The justice office says Switzerland’s “Federal Criminal Court will rule on whether or not he will have to remain in custody for the entire length of the extradition proceeding.”

The man who appealed was not identified.

U.S. authorities have until July 3 to formally request extradition. The seven men face 20 years in prison on racketeering charges.

They were arrested in early-morning raids on luxury hotels in Zurich on May 27.

They seven men are FIFA vice president Jeffrey Webb, former FIFA vice president Eugenio Figueredo, Jose Maria Marin, Eduardo Li, Rafael Esquivel, Julio Rocha and Costas Takkas.
