Life of woman killed in random supermarket attack celebrated at school where she fell in love

SACO, Maine – Family and friends of a Maine woman who was killed in a supermarket knife attack remembered her as the rock of a beloved family in the community.

About 600 people attended the funeral for Wendy Boudreau of Saco on Tuesday at Thornton Academy, where she worked in the alumni office for many years and where she fell in love with her husband of 40 years, Jeffrey.

The 59-year-old Boudreau was shopping on Aug. 19 when police say 31-year-old Connor MacCalister slashed her throat, killing her.

Boudreau was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, before moving to Maine at age 5. She graduated from Thornton Academy in Saco and worked as a nurse’s aide and office manager for the family business, in addition to working at the school.
